Pixel Chuck is a browser based pattern maker. Its inspiration comes from the Rosettes and patterns usually associated with Rose Engine Lathes. These luxury specialised lathes were fashionable during the 1700s as a highly respected hobby among wealthy European royalty, nobility, and high-end craftsmen.

Ornamental Turners (Rose Engine operators) traditionally use Paper Chucks to explore and review patterns. This app is a modern digital take on that approach and allows for instant pattern exploration and discovery. It can also help provide an understanding of how common configuration changes such as amplitude and phasing can dramatically alter the pattern design for new Turners exploring this classic art form.

Pixel Chuck uses Parametric design; all the Rosettes and patterns are based on mathematical algorithms. The mathematical relationships between elements allows users to update and redraw entire patterns by tweaking a single input parameter using the provided user interface. This design model eliminates precision errors typically introduced when modifying existing Rosette drawing files.
